Making a „Basilisk” Bendy Recurve Bow

After your positive feedback from "Hydra" penta-bow project I decided to go for another unusual bow build. This time I choosed red oak wood, as it is one of the best woods when it comes to the shaping the stave with the use of heat bending. For the backing I picked the rawhide, for tips overlays and arrow shelf I used bog oak.

The project was inspired by Asiatic style bows. I tried to make this one like out of a movie or a game, therefore I applied a fancy paintjob on the back. The bow ended up drawing 35lb at 26" and took nearly no set what's a good result for the red oak stick.

During this traditional woodworking project I used only hand tools. I really enjoy working that way and I plan more unusual projects in the nearest future.
