METAL STARTER PACK For Beginner Silversmiths | Choosing Your Silver

In this silversmithing tutorial, I go over the the types of sterling silver and fine silver I have found work best for me with metalsmithing. There are many types of silver sheet, and silver wire to choose from in various gauges. The amount available online can be quite overwhelming so I hope this video helps narrow down your options. I will explain what silver sheet I use for backplates, the silver wire I use for ring bands, and the various fine silver bezel strips.

Sterling Silver Sheet (22 gauge, soft): Backplates

Sterling Silver Round Wire (10, 12, 14 gauge, soft): Ring Bands

Sterling Silver Half Round Wire (4, 6, 8, 10 gauge, soft): Ring Bands & Bracelets
** I like to use 4, 6, and 8 gauge for both Ring Bands & Bracelets. I wouldn't recommend 10 gauge for a bracelet
