Services on this route operate twice an hour with most services calling at all stations except Glynde and Berwick which are served once an hour. Every other Eastbourne to Brighton services starts from Ore reversing at Eastbourne. Additional services operate between Eastbourne and Lewes as part of the London Victoria to Eastbourne/Ore service and Lewes to Brighton has additional services from the Seaford branch. At Brighton Interchange can be made with Brighton Main Line Thameslink and Gatwick Express services along with West Coastway services. There is interchange with Marshlink services to Ashford International at Eastbourne and Hampden Park.

Services on this route are mainly operated by 4 carriage class 377 Electrostar electric trains. Class 387 units can also be used on some Southern services on this route. Previously class 313 units were used on some Coastway services.

This route is fully electrified throughout using third rail electrification. This route is double track throughout. Some services pass through Hampden Park station twice when reversing at Eastbourne. At Brighton East Coastway services have independent track and platforms from the Brighton Mainline and West Coastway routes.
