As a frontline state in the global counter-terrorism efforts, Pakistan has made enormous sacrifices - over 80,000 casualties and billions of dollars in economic losses. Many of the most notable successes in the international community’s collective action against terrorism have been achieved through Pakistan’s efforts and cooperation. Having dismantled Al-Qaeda and its affiliates in our region, we nevertheless continue to face threats from terrorist groups such as the TTP, Daesh, BLA and the Majeed Brigade, that operate with support and sponsorship of our neighbour.

While speaking during the UNSC briefing on ‘Enhancing Regional Counter-Terrorism Cooperation in West Africa and the Sahel’ Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, described the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel as deeply alarming. He said that according to Global Terrorism Index 2025, five of the ten countries worst affected by terrorism remain in the Sahel. Nov 18, 2025

دہشت گردی کے خلاف عالمی جنگ میں صفِ اوّل کا کردار ادا کرنے والے پاکستان نے بے پناہ قربانیاں دی ہیں — 80 ہزار سے زائد جانوں کا نقصان اور اربوں ڈالر کی معاشی قربانیاں۔ بین الاقوامی برادری کی دہشت گردی کے خلاف مشترکہ کوششوں میں جو نمایاں کامیابیاں حاصل ہوئیں، ان میں پاکستان کا کردار اور تعاون بنیادی حیثیت رکھتا ہے۔ خطے میں القاعدہ اور اس کے اتحادی گروہوں کو پسپا کرنے کے باوجود پاکستان کو اب بھی ٹی ٹی پی، داعش، بی ایل اے اور مجید بریگیڈ جیسے دہشت گرد گروہوں کی طرف سے خطرات کا سامنا ہے، جو ہمارے پڑوسی کی سرپرستی اور معاونت سے کام کرتے ہیں۔

سلامتی کونسل کے اجلاس ‘مغربی افریقہ اور ساحل میں انسدادِ دہشت گردی کے علاقائی تعاون میں اضافہ’ کے دوران پاکستان کے مستقل نمائندہ برائے اقوام متحدہ سفیر عاصم افتخار احمد نے ساحل خطے کی بگڑتی ہوئی سیکیورٹی صورتحال پر گہری تشویش کا اظہار کیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ گلوبل ٹیررازم انڈیکس 2025 کے مطابق دہشت گردی سے سب سے زیادہ متاثرہ دس ممالک میں سے پانچ ممالک ساحل میں واقع ہیں۔ (18 نومبر 2025)
