On Monday August 12. 2024 it was announced that WCBS 880 will be shutting down and changing not only it's format but it's historic call letters. It's signal can be heard from Canada down to Florida. As good as 1010 WINS is, the signal isn't nearly as good because it is using a directional antenna thus limiting the coverage.

Audacy is the parent company for both WCBS 880 and 1010 WINS. This station will become the new home of ESPN New York and will use the call letters WHSQ-AM, pending FCC approval.

This will leave 1010 WINS the only All news station to serve the NYC area. It is very sad but not surprising in a way. The shutdown of WCBS is expected to occur on Monday August 26th. This video was recorded on Tuesday August 13th, 2024 the morning after the announcement.
