Chlamydia is the most commonly reported STI among young people in Australia and is on the rise. It’s a curable bacterial infection usually showing no symptoms and is easily treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, it can sometimes lead to more serious health problems like pelvic inflammatory disease, painful swelling of the testicles, complications with pregnancy and infertility.

Symptoms and signs in people who have a vagina can include:

👉 a change in vaginal discharge
👉 crampy pain in the lower abdomen
👉 menstrual changes including longer, heavier periods
👉 pain when peeing
👉 bleeding / spotting between periods or after sex
👉 pain during or after sex.
