Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out India’s bold and human-first AI doctrine at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. Warning that humans must not become “mere data points” in the age of artificial intelligence, he called for democratising AI and transforming it into a tool of inclusion. He unveiled the MANAV framework built on ethics, accountability, national data sovereignty, accessibility and legal validity. Addressing over 200,000 participants from more than 100 countries, including global tech leaders and innovators, PM Modi positioned India as a voice for the Global South in shaping responsible AI governance. He compared the AI revolution to historic turning points like the discovery of fire and wireless communication, stressing that AI must remain under human control. The summit marks the first global AI gathering hosted in the Global South, signalling India’s ambition to shape the future of technology.
