Taal Dhamaar | Kathak Performance by Aarya Kini

Namaskar and hello everyone!

The composition that I have performed is a technical presentation of Taal Dhamaar and is the second piece from my Kathak Manch Pravesh that took place on 17th August 2019, at the Theatre at the NUS University Cultural Centre.

Taal Dhamaar consists of fourteen beats (or matras), is generally played on the pakhawaj, and is known for its energetic and powerful bols. This presentation includes several traditional Jaipur gharana compositions in Taal Dhamaar, such as Thaat, Utthan, Aamad etc.

The piece was choreographed by my guru, Guru Jyotika Joshi, with accompanying music by the following artistes:
Padhant - Guru Jyotika Joshi
Vocals - Guru Shibani Roy
Tabla - Guru Mihir Kundu
Pakhawaj - Guru Mulla Afsar Khan
Sitar - Guru Susanta Chowdhury

All the above-mentioned Gurus are tutors at the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society.
