This is a tailpiece for rim cylinders, is where you're gonna use this. It's extra long because it will allow you to get, not only in the thicker doors, but it'll also allow, if you're a locksmith, to stock a tailpiece knowing what you're dealing with in your truck, is gonna handle pretty much any thickness of door. Also is nice to have in case you mis-cut one. Kaba has it at 2-3/8" length and I'm gonna say that they're measuring that from the shoulder here, the usable length here, right where the bottom of the utility blade is at, underneath there, this length is 2-3/8". Graduated lines on there are to indicate that you can cut that down. You wouldn't want to try to snap that with pliers, you'd want to cut it. Tailpieces like this, if you try to snap it with pliers, probably will give you a difficult installation. Rim cylinder tailpieces need to be laser beam straight because they rotate, and if it's not straight it won't work right, if you're on an angle or if this tailpiece is bent. Typical item.
