Hi guys, it's Randy here etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at an LED light from Optronics. This is going to be your standard 4 x 5 square light. It's designed to mount on two inch bolt centers. Basically you're going to find these on tons of small utility trailers and boat trailers. I think marine use is really where this one's going to shine.

It's completely waterproof. Unlike the older incandescent types that just had a clear plastic bubble around the bulb. The LED and wiring here outside and for our reverse light down low, completely sealed, no water can get to those electronics and cause us issues. So while I think this is going to be great in all applications, I really think it'll be nice in those marine situations where we're used to having light failures. Now, of course, this is going to give us all of the functions that we need out of a light. On our driver's side we've got our license plate light down here that lights up.

We're going to have our turn signal and we're going to have our brakes and we're going to have our side marker. We also have the reflectors that are already built in. So there's no need to pick those up additionally. Now with LED lights like this, they tend to last so much longer than incandescent lights. They also draw a lot less power. With the incandescent lights had that filament that had to heat up.

With this you're using a lot less power to do that and we don't have to worry about those filaments breaking. Now of course Optronics lights have been around just about forever. Their housings are always good, pretty rigid, a little bit of flex and give to them, but the lenses are also really nice, very durable acrylic type lens. So unless you really hit this with something hard, you really shouldn't have to worry about anything breaking or busting. I think that paired with the complete waterproof light, is going to give you an ideal situation, whether it's a utility trailer, a boat trailer, or any other trailer for that matter.

So you're really not going to have to worry about these. Once you have them installed, you should have them on there pretty much indefinitely. Then to begin our installation, we're going to be doing a three-wire design install basically. You can see there's a ring terminal on that white wire already. It's going to get grounded right behind one of our mounting studs. So we mount it, we'll take care of that. For now, I'm just going to connect my yellow wire to the yellow wire coming from my trailer or my left turn and brake signal. See we're using heat-shrink butt connectors here to do that. Anytime I'm working on a trailer connection outside, I always use heat shrinks. Once we get them crimped and we're sure that we've got a good crimp on them, then we'll shrink them down. That way no moisture can get in there and cause corrosion. As we mount our light, we want to make sure the three wires go through that little groove. You see it's like the perfect amount of space there for them to fit into. Bring that in up against our trailer there. I'm going to add my lock washer and nut here to the outside first. That'll help hold that light in place. On our other side, bring that ring terminal over and you can see we've cleaned that steel up there just to get a good connection. You can also do that with a wire brush, piece of emery cloth, you just want to make sure you get good ground. Replace on our washer in there. Now we're just going to use a 10 millimeter and we'll get that tightened down there. Now we can just tidy up our excess wire. I always like leaving in extra. That way if we have any issues, we need to rewire something or something gets damaged, we won't have to worry about running a new wire harness. Now, once you're happy with the way this side looks and you've got it tidied up. You'll just head over to the other side and you're going to repeat that same process. Only your yellow wire should be green. All right now, to test out your lights and make sure they work, you can either hook it up to your tow vehicle or we're just going to use our tester here. Start by turning on our running lights. We've got our left blinker, our right blinker and our brakes. Once everything's working properly, that completes your installation.
