FANTASY FLASH RAW POV | FANTASY FALLS SECTION

Fantasy Falls on the North Fork of the Mokelumne is one of the most iconic multi sections in kayaking. 21 miles long, nearly the entire section packed with world class rapids, slides, unique sequences. As well as a few of the stouter sequences in Cali, like Mommy Gorge and Untouchables. Back in 2018 I did the first Fantasy Flush, which means running the entirety of the Fantasy Falls section except 1 short, gnarly sieve rapid on the paddle in. Back in 2021 I got my 2nd Fantasy Flush, at stout high flows, but afterwards it gave me an idea. Knowing that the entirety of the section was runnable except that one portage, gave me the idea for the Fantasy Flash. My idea was to run from the put in, all the way down to the reservoir, without stopping or catching eddys, other than the ones necessary to hit the lines.

This was one of the main goals for my summer in California, and although the levels were dropping out and it was getting on the lower end, I still was able to make it happen. With 19 people on safety at each of the crux locations, levels just barely holding high enough, and my stoke still high, I decided to go for it. Although with the lower water I opted for safety to skip one of the smaller gnarly rapids due to the line becoming more marginal. So in the end it wasn't a full Fantasy Flush, but it was still an unreal day. There was something so epic and different in the experience of just flowing into each of the stout rapids without eddying out, without having scouted except the day before, and just experiencing so much epic whitewater in such a short time. I was stoked to be able to hit nearly all the lines I wanted, and this was definitely a day I will always remember.
