Our Unique Wedding in the Most Mysterious Country in the Himalayas - Bhutan

When we got engaged in Toronto we just knew that we had to have our wedding in Sonam's home country of Bhutan, where she lived until she was 12 years old and where almost all of her non-immediate family still resides.

After stopping in Bangkok (see our last vlog) we spent 9 days integrating Brock into the family, receiving blessings from many temples and even a few rinpoches, then another 5 days taking Brock's family sight seeing and teaching them about the culture.

We planned our wedding as a modern twist on a traditional Bhutanese wedding, with a 1 hour in-out ritual led by Dungse Garab Rinpoche where we let out all of our negative energies from the past and signaled in positive energies for the future of our marriage. We then joined our family and friends for food, dance and celebration at our reception.

We spent the week after the wedding experiencing as much of the culture as we could and living like locals. We are so grateful for everyone's kindness and hospitality in Bhutan and for welcoming Brock into the family so seamlessly. We are also beyond grateful for Dungse Garab Rinpoche's generous offer to perform our wedding ritual - an honour that nobody had previously been granted.

We will remember August 10th with fond, loving memories and can't wait to visit Bhutan again soon.
