In the semifinal, South Korea again faced their old rival Chinese Taipei. Joo Saehyuk won Chen Chien-an 3-0 easily and then controlled the match against Chuang Chih-yuan, winning him by 3-1. In the final, Joo met Ma Long who was the world's number one at that time. Together, they started a classic and breathtaking battle between offense and defense at world's top level.
