Well, well! isn't it fun to dig through old boxes? Or, as in this case, old hard drives. :-)

I got an email today from a guy who was asking about an old video game that was never finished. This goes all the way back to about 1995/1996 and the project was "Witchwood", which was supposed to have been a great video game for Amiga and PC. I was responsible for composing the music and creating the sound effects for it, and I worked on this project for a few months.

Sadly, the game was never actually finished. The project, I think, got too slow, too expensive, I don't know exactly what happened, but my employer at the time, Team17 Software, cancelled the project. So I had all this music that I spent a few weeks or months creating, and I decided to put it out as a Bjørn Lynne "Witchwood" music album instead. The album was originally released in 1996 on the Italian label Mellow Records. But I later re-released it on my own label, as I never received any royalties from Mellow Records, and after a few months I couldn't even get hold of them.

Amongst the tracks I composed for this game was "The Fairy Woods"; this was done both as a General MIDI track, a "Soundtracker" track, and a more proper "CD recording" with hardware synthesizers etc. That was the version that was included on the 1996 CD "Witchwood".

It turns out -- I had completely forgotten about this -- I made a remix in 2000. That was 19 years ago, and I don't think I've heard it since then. Here it is. I like this version because at this time I had started to play a little bit of guitar, and I added a guitar solo from 04:13 into the track. I was kind of a beginner on the guitar (to be honest, I never made it much further as a guitarist), but I do kind of like this guitar solo because it has some emotion and expression, and for me, it suits the track even though it's nothing difficult or technical. It's just "simple" playing but I think it does the job. The original 1996 version didn't have any guitar solo in it.

Listening back now, if I did this today I guess I would have mixed the drums a bit quieter.

I don't think this 2000 version / recording has ever been released before. Here it is, I hope you enjoy it.

The video footage is just some still photo that I took with my mobile phone in a small forest near my home; I added "Chrome keyer" effect in Sony Vegas and had a moving particles stock video clip running behind my forest photo. Again, nothing special, but seemed to do the job for this track. :)
