The Government of India has revised the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (Fifth Amendment), introducing new fitness test fee slabs based on vehicle age groups — 10–15 years, 15–20 years, and 20+ years. These rules impact all vehicle types including two-wheelers, autos, LMVs, medium and heavy commercial vehicles.

The biggest shock is the jump in fees:

Heavy commercial vehicles (20+ years): ₹2,500 → ₹25,000

Medium commercial vehicles: ₹1,800 → ₹20,000

Old LMVs: Up to ₹15,000

Autos: Up to ₹7,000

Two-wheelers: 600 → 2,000

This policy aims at road safety and pollution control, but it significantly increases the burden on daily-income vehicle owners.
