Recently I had a day in Sydney to fill in and decided to spend that time in and around Hyde Park.
I had not spent any time here exploring, and I was surprised by what I discovered in the best possible way.
I started taking in the beauty of St Mary's Cathedral, a lovely example of gothic architecture in the heart of Sydney.
Hyde Park is a great green space to relax while you enjoy the city's heart. This 40-acre park has been a place to enjoy for almost as long as Europeans have been in this country. On the grounds of the park, you will find different themed areas and lovely places to stroll, sit, and relax with a picnic. Don't forget to pop into the Anzac Memorial, and if close by at 11am, join in the daily remembrance service and minute of silence. This was such a special surprise on my visit, and I must admit I was a little sad that I did realise what was about to happen before it began.
The Australian Museum is free now (check the website for current pricing). I enjoy wandering around, but doing the free tour was a nice way to get a deep level of enjoyment, and it was nice having the guide point out the things that interested her.
I have admitted before to not having taken the time before now to enjoy my home capital city. I hope this little glimpse into more Sydney offers inspires you to get and explore.
