Much of the body is controlled through unconscious signals from the brain. This process is called interoception.
In recent years, scientists have learned that we do in fact, have some level of control over these signals and that by relaxing ourselves in a safe, and comforting environment we disrupt negative signals caused by stress and replace them with positive ones.
