In this video, we will have a closer look at a license-free two-way radio from Motorola.

I will do an unboxing and show you a few closeup shots of this small and lightweight radio.

Keep in mind that PMR466 radios are designed for close range communications.

In my opinion, these radios are not meant to have a huge range, because of the comparably low output power of 0,5 Watt.

I will explain in the review why this has disadvantages as well as benefits.

Please note that different countries have different laws when it comes to using radios.

This review will most likely be relevant to people in European countries.

If you are located in the United States the GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) or FRS (Family Radio Service) will likely be more relevant to you.

A higher output power of 2 Watt or even 5 Watt will boost your range significantly!

Make sure to check for license requirements when using units that have a higher output power.

One thing I also noticed is that these units will probably perform best in a dry environment.

I would be careful about exposing them to moisture, my impression is they are designed for occasional use in dry, close range environments.

People who want to go hiking, use the radios regularly, or need more range, should look for waterproof models that come with a docking station for changing, as well as higher output power and more battery capacity.

If on the other hand, you just want to use these radios occasionally in and around the house, then the Motorola T41's should perform just fine.
