Canadian military plane heads to India to pick up stranded Trudeau

A military aircraft is en route to New Delhi after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s plane broke down on Sunday, leaving the Canadian delegation stranded in India.

The broken down 40-year-old airbus, with a host of known mechanical issues, was grounded on Sunday evening due to a problem with one of its components, government officials say.

Trudeau’s visit to India was for the G20 summit, which was chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this year. Over the last few years, Canada and India have shared a tense relationship.

The Canadian delegation’s new ride is set to return to Canada on Tuesday morning. Global’s Touria Izri has the latest.
