Johnny Yuma was a rebel; a Confederate army veteran and aspiring writer. He roamed through the West fighting injustice and recording his adventures in a journal. Nick Adams was 'The Rebel' (1959) for two seasons, a role that reportedly was intended for Steve McQueen. Guest stars included Leonard Nimoy, Soupy Sales, Robert Vaughn, Victor Buono et al. The series might have continued longer, but ABC cancelled the show for unclear reasons. Was it a spat with the producers? A move to counter-program the other networks? 'The Ballad of Johnny Yuma' is by Richard Markowitz with lyrics by producer and occasional guest star Andrew J Fenady. It's performed by Johnny Cash;.Adams wanted his friend Elvis to do the honors but the producers preferred Johnny.
