The story of CVX follows Claire Redfield as she's captured by Umbrella and sent to Rockfort Island. An outbreak occurs via an outside attack, and the person who captured Claire in the first place--Rodrigo Juan Raval--lets her go, not actually thinking she can survive. She leaves the prison area and runs into another young prisoner by the name of Steve Burnside. He's there due to his father working for Umbrella and being caught selling information to other people. Although they split up several times, they work together to get off the island while evading Alfred Ashford, the person in charge of Rockfort. Claire and Steve escape on a plane but Alfred manages to redirect it to autopilot from off site and it ends up crashing in another Umbrella facility in the Antarctic. After one more confrontation with Alfred in which Steve shoots him and he falls into an abyss, Claire and Steve manage to secure an escape vehicle. However, that's when Alexia Ashford, Alfred's twin sister, wakes up and uses her new abilities from her own T-Veronica Virus to capture the pair.
Chris arrives at the island to find out from Rodrigo that Claire escaped. He also meets up with an old foe, Albert Wesker, and they both head to Antarctica. Chris goes there to find Claire and Wesker goes there to go after Alexia. Wesker confronts Alexia, wanting a sample of the virus inside her, but she refuses to provide one for him and Wesker retreats. Chris finds Claire but they're temporarily split up. While off on her own, Claire finds that Alexia has performed an experiment on Steve that has turned him into a monster. However, in his final moments, he transforms back to normal and dies in Claire's arms. Chris manages to kill Alexia and set off the self-destruct system, but Wesker has captured Claire and lures Chris into a fight. The two engaged in a lopsided battle, what with Wesker being superhuman, but they both make it out alive as their fight is interrupted by an explosion. Chris and Claire speed off in a jet with Chris declaring that it's time to stop Umbrella "once and for all."
