KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says several organisations are dedicated to debriefing police officers who encounter violent incidents with criminals. This includes, he says, social workers, psychologists, spiritual counselors and private medical healthcare practitioners who help them with their mental, emotional and physical well-being. "You go for a debrief, then come back again to be confronted with another situation. That's the life of a police officer - it's a calling," he says.
