Unforgettable Moments in Yorkshire Dales. Day 3. Stage 1.

A Campervan Road Trip To the town of Hawes in The Yorkshire Dales, England, UK.
This is Day 3 (Stage 1) of our MTB trail adventure and includes a mountain bike journey from the town of Hawes to the summit of Pickersett Nab. The adventure begins with a pleasant bike ride on some quiet back roads to the village of Hardraw and the Green Dragon inn, a pub dating back to the 13th century. From here we joined the Pennine Way and started the climb to the summit of Pickersett Nab. To say this was an eventful cross country Mountain Bike trail would be an understatement. I put up my DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone and recorded some great Active Track footage of our ride along the Coal Road Path. For most of this MTB Trail the path was rideable on a mountain bike. Unfortunately there was a section of the path that was overgrown and disappeared for a while, making it difficult to navigate.
What followed involved an unpleasant experience with some Scottish Thistles and a relentless attack from a plague of horseflies. These unpleasant beasts attacked every inch of our arms and legs. They were relentless and would not leave us alone. Eventually, we managed to traverse the hill, leave the evil bloodsucking flies behind us and found the missing track to the summit of Pickersett Nab. The all-round aspect of the landscape surrounding this hill was superb with a wonderful view of Ingleborough, one of the iconic Yorkshire Dales 3 Peaks. Stay tuned for stage two of this mountain biking adventure, which includes a nice descent, from the summit of Pickersett Nab, back to the town of Hawes.

Hawes is a wonderful market town with lots to offer in the surrounding area of Wensleydale. The landscape is stunning with a plethora of trails perfectly suited for hiking, gravel riding and mountain biking. This town is famous for its dairy products and is home to the Wensleydale Creamery, a source of the world-famous Wensleydale Cheese. There are lots of shops and places to eat. It is also home to the Dales Countryside Museum.

Hardraw Village - The Green Dragon Inn.

Hardraw is a hamlet near Hawes within the Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire, England. It takes its name from the nearby Hardraw Force waterfall. One of the main reasons that people visit Hardraw in the Yorkshire Dales is to see the 100ft waterfall – the highest waterfall in England. A payment is required to access the path that leads to Hardraw Beck and the short walk to the waterfall through the Green Dragon Pub in the high street. The Green Dragon Inn stands in a stunning location overlooking Upper Wensleydale. Situated beneath the rising fells of Pickersett Nab and Great Shunner Fell, not far from the town of Hawes.
Behind the Green Dragon Inn is Hardraw Force, the highest single drop waterfall in England, used in the 1991 Kevin Costner Film, “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”
This ancient traditional Dales Inn, dating from 13th century, with flagged floors, open fires, beamed ceilings, and stone walls is a privately owned free house. They sell a range of drinks including locally brewed real ale and gin, along with traditional pub food. It also offers accommodation with well - appointed bedrooms.

Hawes Club Campsite is set in beautiful Wensleydale, where the famous cheese has been made for nearly a century, and offers delightful views. Redeveloped in 2017 and now with 10 serviced pitches, it's situated between the River Ure and the market town of Hawes and is the northern most of The Club's Yorkshire sites within the boundary of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park.
With the beautiful Dales right on the doorstep of Hawes Club Campsite, walking enthusiasts and mountain bikers will have hours of captivating landscape to explore.
