The Brothers McMullen soundtrack performed LIVE by Seamus Egan Project

Описание к видео The Brothers McMullen soundtrack performed LIVE by Seamus Egan Project

As we approached another St. Patrick’s Day without the prospect of being able to perform live I wondered what I could do to mark the occasion. My thoughts turned to the past to revisit a project that, in a very real sense, was life changing for me. In the mid nineties I had the good fortune to be involved in the indy hit film, The Brothers McMullen. Written and directed by Edward Burns, it epitomized the diy spirit of independent filmmaking. Made for just $25,000 it went on to win the 1995 Sundance Film Festival. During production of the film a cd of my music found its way to Ed and, for him, it connected to the story of the Irish American brother’s navigating life in Long Island, NY. We got together and worked to make a soundtrack that resonated with the Irish American experience of the mid nineties. For me, it was a busy time. I had just finished a new solo album and was about to start recording the first Solas album. As everything unfolded, I never got the opportunity to perform the music from the film live. That is until now! It only took 26 years and a pandemic to make it happen!

Joining me for this special St. Patrick’s Day streaming event are Jenna Moynihan on fiddle, Kyle Sanna on guitar, and Owen Marshall on bouzouki and harmonium. Filmed and recorded live at Ghost Hit Recording in West Springfield, MA, it was the first-ever performance of The Brothers McMullen soundtrack. Our approach to this music was not to make a note for note reproduction of the soundtrack but rather to reimagine it for the musicians playing it today. I couldn’t be more excited to revisit this music with you all. It’s always a privilege to get to make music with other musicians but maybe even more so during this time of prolonged isolation. I hope you find as much enjoyment in listening to it as we had in making it.
