Shelford Level Crossing, Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire

Date filmed: 04/08/2020

Route: West Anglia Main Line
Shelford Station

Location: Station Road, Great Shelford
Trains: Class 755 (Greater Anglia) - 1:59

Located next to Shelford Station on the busy West Anglia Main Line just to the South of Cambridge, the last stop before this line joins the Cambridge Line as The Fen Line through Cambridge itself. Both alarms here are of a reasonable volume given the often very quiet surroundings here, and the road dips down quite significantly towards the level crossing on both sides. The level crossing is also situated at quite an angle, and all four barriers here have supporter arms, despite the relatively narrow footways here for pedestrians, and the barriers themselves are missing parts of their red reflective vinyl, which appears to have been peeled off by bored pedestrians as they have waited here since these barriers were fitted. The station itself sees only an hourly stopping service, with most trains that pass here passing the station non-stop.

The picture at the end of the video is not edited - it's a screenshot taken at a very specific time in the video, as there was a very slight delay of only around a few milliseconds between the two amber lights illuminating in this video.

Thanks for watching!
