.A temperate cyclone is a large, low-pressure weather system that forms in the mid-latitudes (\(35^{\circ }\) to \(65^{\circ }\) latitude). These systems, also called extratropical cyclones or frontal cyclones, develop along the polar front where contrasting air masses of warm and cold air meet, creating weather patterns like rain, snow, and storms. They differ from tropical cyclones, which form over warm ocean waters near the equator.   Formation and characteristics Formation: They form from the interaction between a warm air mass and a cold air mass along the polar front. The less dense warm air is forced to rise over the denser cold air, creating a wave-like disturbance and a low-pressure center.  Air masses: They are fueled by temperature differences between cold polar air and warm tropical air.  Structure: They have a low-pressure center with associated cold fronts and warm fronts, and sometimes an occluded front as they mature.  Weather: They bring prolonged precipitation, which can be in the form of rain or snow, and strong winds.  Size and movement: They are much larger than tropical cyclones and typically move from west to east across continents.  Global impact Heat distribution: They play a vital role in global air circulation by redistributing heat and helping to maintain the Earth's heat balance.  Weather patterns: They are responsible for much of the precipitation in the mid-latitudes, especially during winter, late autumn, and spring.  Human impact: They can cause significant disruption through heavy rainfall, snowstorms, and strong winds, affecting transportation, agriculture, and daily life.

.
.A tropical cyclone is a powerful, rapidly rotating storm that forms over warm tropical or subtropical oceans. It is characterized by heavy rainfall, high winds, and a central eye of low pressure. These storms draw energy from the warm ocean water and can become dangerous hurricanes or typhoons depending on their location and wind speed.
Key characteristics Formation: They form over warm ocean waters (around \(27\degree C\) or \(80\degree F\)) and are powered by the heat and moisture from the sea. The Earth's rotation (the Coriolis effect) causes the winds to spiral.  Structure: The storm has a central "eye" with calm winds and light rain, surrounded by the "eyewall" which has the most intense winds and heaviest rain.  Movement: They typically move westward in the tropics and can later curve toward the poles. They weaken once they move over land or cooler water.  Hazards: The main dangers associated with tropical cyclones are extreme winds, heavy rainfall leading to flooding, storm surge, and sometimes tornadoes.  Different names The name for the storm depends on its geographical region. Hurricane: In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific. Typhoon: In the Northwest Pacific. Cyclone: In the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.
