The Visual Genius of Jacques Lacan

This video invites a variety of narratives on the theme of the role of visualization in psychoanalysis. Freud's enigmatic note from August 22, 1938 indicates a view that "psyche is out there." Lacan seems to go one step further, from the idea that psyche is extend-ED to the claim that psyche is extension itself. Lacan pursued this thesis through figures of projective geometry and knot theory, but there is a wealth of ethnographic, artistic, and popular culture materials to play out the thesis. Architecture theory, with long experience in the particulars of spatial projection, can adopt a few of its key terms to assist in this project of moving from extend-ED to exten-SION.
