Ishvara is a concept in Hindu philosophy and religion that refers to the supreme reality or the ultimate being. Ishvara is often equated with God or the divine, and is considered to be the creator, sustainer, and destroyer of the universe.
In Hinduism, Ishvara is believed to possess all conceivable qualities and attributes, such as omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence. Ishvara is viewed as the source of all existence, and is considered the highest form of consciousness.
Ishvara is also seen as a personal deity by many Hindus, with various forms and names. Devotion and worship of these different forms of Ishvara play a significant role in Hindu religious practices.
Furthermore, Ishvara is not limited to a single religious tradition or sect within Hinduism. Different sects may have their own specific interpretations and conceptualizations of Ishvara, which gives rise to diverse theological perspectives within Hindu philosophy.
Advaita Vedanta is a philosophy rooted in Hinduism, specifically in the teachings of ancient Indian sages like Adi Shankara. It promotes the understanding of non-duality, emphasizing that there is only one ultimate reality or consciousness known as Brahman. According to Advaita Vedanta, all the perceived diversity in the world is an illusion (maya) and the individual self (jiva) is not separate from the ultimate reality. It asserts that the true nature of oneself and the universe is pure consciousness or awareness, and achieving liberation (moksha) requires realizing this truth through self-inquiry and direct experience. The philosophy also discusses concepts like karma, reincarnation, and the role of meditation and spiritual practices in attaining self-realization. Overall, Advaita Vedanta attempts to explain the nature of reality and the highest purpose of human life.
