The Conveyor Belt of Bias | Elisha Dalmeida | TEDxJenks Youth

In my Ted talk, I discussed the importance of understanding and being aware of implicit bias, a subconscious perception that may affect attitudes and decision making. I thought it was important to mention the background and reasoning from where implicit bias stems from, and why it is so important to learn about in hopes of people trying to combat their bias. I’m involved with many clubs at Jenks High School, but have always been most active and present in theatre and debate. Having done these activities for so long, I’ve come across typecasting issues and issues during rounds that stem from the perceptions those in charge had of me. Which is why I felt so passionately about speaking on the topic of implicit bias. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
