Here's my 23rd composition. To complicate matters, the Alter-romantic style is easily confused with Neo-minimalism (arcane 21), as it's also called "Neo-classical" (arcane 15), "New Age" or "Contemporary Classical" to be more marketable. Considering that the term Neo-Romantic is already used to describe music closer to the classical tradition, I call my arcane Alter-Romantic (the other Romantic). The idea came to me from the term "Altermoderne" that art critic Nicolas Bourriaud uses to describe the visual arts of the 21st century. Alter-romantic music is a romanticism (arcane 5) influenced by pop, jazz (arcanes 10, 14, 16 and 18), impressionism (arcane 7), minimalism (arcane 19) and traditional music. It's fresh, singable and dreamlike. Like neo-minimalism, it employs the repetition of looped phrases, but the repeated elements are more substantial and varied. It's not unusual for a composer to express himself as much with neo-minimalism as with alter-romanticism.
