Darkthrone, Mayhem and Burzum all have a certain hypnotic and sad undertone in much of their work, some songs or albums more than others. The first few albums by these three in particular have a simplistic, bare and naked songwriting approach that I find truly appealing. They all touch in to the same lyrical universes, describing the nordic darkness, death, sadness - sprinkled with some fairies or whatever.

This song by Darkthrone, Transilvanian Hunger, is probably a way of describing a "thirst for blood", with the associations tied to Transilvania. I won't try any further explanation the lyrical meaning here, I'll paste 'em in here somewhere instead.

Transilvanian Hunger is the fourth studio album by Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone. It was released 17 February 1994 by Peaceville Records, and the first track is the title track.

Transilvanian Hunger was the band's first album to be recorded with just two members, Nocturno Culto and Fenriz, following the departure of Zephyrous.[1]

Fenriz performed all instrumentation on the album, with Nocturno Culto adding vocals. As of 2018, this and Panzerfaust have been the only Darkthrone albums with this arrangement (although Fenriz also performs spoken word vocals on the Panzerfaust outro).[3] The album was recorded on a 4-track recorder set up in Fenriz's bedroom (dubbed "Necrohell studios" by the band). Lyrics for four of the album's songs were written by the Norwegian black metal musician Varg Vikernes, who performed solo as Burzum.
