(12 Nov 2018) French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed UN chief Antonio Guterres for talks at the Elysee Palace on Monday a day after they, along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, opened a new peace forum in Paris after commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War.
During the peace forum Guterres warned that the world today has several of the ingredients that led to the failure of the peace that followed World War I, including trade conflicts, increasingly polarised politics, and the failure to solve inequalities exposed by the 2008 world financial crisis.
