Ghostly Trails, Vol. 1: Haunted Great Britain with Liam Dale

I'm often asked how my interest in making Ghost programmes was formed. As the son of an Irish catholic mother and Scottish Protestant father, born in Cornwall, it’s fair to say that Celtish blood runs thickly in my veins.

As well as a childhood growing up in spooky old houses. But probably the greatest influence comes from discovering that I had become a recorded, written about ghost in my own right and lifetime. For the full tale watch this programme. It’s a classic example of "Never let the truth get in the way of a good ghost story". As a punishment as a child, I was banished from my bedroom and made to sleep on the turret floor (really) featured here in the opening story.

From there we move on to Chawton House, home of Jane Austen, reputed to still walk the creaking floors, down into the mines known as Clearwell Caves in The Royal Forest of Dean for knocking dead iron ore diggers, Chavenage House with the tales of the dastardly Oliver Cromwell and on to Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire, the site of the tragic murder of Edward II, unjustly imprisoned and so badly mutilated when killed that his remains couldn’t even get taken back to London and he was buried at Gloucester Cathedral.
