Matt Scutchfield - One6 (John Cage) Solo Violin

Описание к видео Matt Scutchfield - One6 (John Cage) Solo Violin

One of my favorite solo violin pieces to perform is "One6" by John Cage. This piece is so meditative, and transports the listener on an incredible journey. Also, it will never be played exactly the same way twice. Cage's format for this piece allows the player to choose within parameters when to start and stop notes.

PLEASE NOTE: Most of this piece is with a dynamic marking of "pianissimo" which is, VERY QUIET. No need to turn your speakers up ;)

This video is of the first part of the piece, "A." The video was recorded by my colleague and amazing videographer, Jim Yocom, at the Wild Rose Moon performing arts center. The composition was originally paired with an ice sculpture which melted during the performance, adding additional sounds to this piece. With no ice sculpture on hand, I purposely made sure that street sounds were audible in the recording. I feel that this artistic decision is one Cage would have approved.

Look for "One6" to appear on vinyl later this year!

Recorded and performed by Matt Scutchfield. Video by Jim Yocom.
