As he digs deeper, Kolchak uncovers an unsettling pattern. These murders occur every 21 years, stretching back nearly a century.

The investigation leads Kolchak to a chilling revelation: the murderer is not a man but a 144-year-old scientist named Dr. Richard Malcolm (portrayed by Richard Anderson), who discovered an elixir that grants him immortality as long as he kills six women every 21 years. Malcolm has been hiding out in the long-abandoned Seattle underground, a forgotten section of the city beneath the modern streets, carrying out his ghastly ritual to extend his life.

Simon Oakland reprises his role as Tony Vincenzo, Kolchak’s long-suffering editor, who is skeptical of Kolchak’s theories but reluctantly allows him to pursue the story. The chemistry between McGavin and Oakland adds a layer of humor to the film, balancing the dark horror with moments of levity as they bicker and clash over Kolchak’s unconventional methods.

Like its predecessor, The Night Strangler blends horror with investigative thriller elements. Kolchak's relentless pursuit of the truth, despite the disbelief of those around him, remains a central theme.
