I wanted to determine how much color information is being lost or retained in the different recording options from 8-bit 4:2:0, 10-bit 4:2:2 up to 12-bit RAW.

These clips were normalised and color corrected in DaVinci Resolve 14. You can already see some banding starting on the blue bulb in the 8-bit clip. It doesn't look that bad on YouTube but it gets worse when you try grading the clip. 12-bit RAW contains the most color information though the final upload was rendered in 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes HQ. I even had to turn down saturation to make it somehow comparable to the GH5.

RAW was shot on a Canon 5D mark III with MagicLantern and a EF 24-70/2.8L II lens. The same lens was used on a Panasonic GH5 with Metabones Speed Booster XL 0.64x.
Settings were ISO 100, f/2.8, 70mm on the FF body and ISO 400, f/5.6, 55mm on the MFT camera. Therefore the GH5 clips have a much deeper DOF.
