Dr. Becky often talks about deeply feeling kids, and I find it to be a really intriguing topic. I have young children, and I'm not sure they've reached the age for me to understand or see the tendencies of a deeply feeling child, but I do sometimes feel like my oldest shares some of these characteristics.

She often tells me I'm wrong about her feelings when I try to validate her or talk to her about the emotions she's having. One of the things she does most is choose a similar emotion in place of the emotion I say, almost as if she needs me to be wrong. For example, I might say she's sad, and she'll say "no" angrily and say that she's upset or frustrated instead.

Her emotions can rise quickly, and it does sometimes feel like shame is a part of it.

Even if my kid isn't a deeply feeling kid, I've noticed children with these tendencies before. At the very least, I'm better prepared than most if my child ever shows more signs of being a deeply feeling kid.
