🚨 A man with a gun was killed in a shootout with police on the Upper East Side after he pointed his weapon at a man in an apartment building elevator and a deli worker and threatened to shoot up Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

The man was shot at East 96th Street and Madison Avenue after opening fire on police with civilians nearby, according to the NYPD.

“This situation could have turned out differently,” said NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera. “An individual walked into multipole locations with a gun, menaced multiple people with that gun and then shot at our officers in the middle of a busy sidewalk with civilians in close proximity.”
