Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced new rules for passengers coming from Africa and beyond for a new variant of coronavirus, Amicron, which will be effective from Saturday.

Bangladesh's civil aviation authority has said that anyone from seven African countries, including South Africa, would actually have to stay in Bangladesh for 14 days in a hotel quarantine at their own expense.

However, passengers from any country must bring with them a negative report of the RTPCR test within 48 hours.

Earlier, the rule was to keep the report of the test done within 72 hours for the passengers arriving in Bangladesh. Now it has been reduced to 48 hours.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has described South Africa as a "worrying variant" after the first amicron variant was recently identified.

Since then, scientists have been working on the dangers of Amicron and its ability to spread infection.
During a visit to the coronavirus laboratory in Dhaka airport on Thursday, Health Minister Zahid Malek said strict measures would be taken to ensure quarantine of passengers from seven countries.

During the night, the Civil Aviation Authority issued a notice naming seven countries, stating that if any of these countries arrived, they would have to stay in a government-designated hotel for 14 days at their own expense.

The countries are: Botswana, Isoatini, Ghana, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Lesotho.

Passengers will have to select a government-designated hotel for quarantine before boarding a flight from these countries to Bangladesh.

On the seventh day of quarantine at the hotel, if a positive report is received in the corona test, the passenger will be sent to isolation separately.

And if the negative report comes, he will have to stay in quarantine for the remaining seven days in the hotel.

After that on the 14th day the negative report of the second corona test will actually allow the passenger to leave the quarantine center.
