"What is a Trope?": A Literary Guide for English Students and Teachers

Why are there two meanings for the word trope in literature? Which one is correct? What are some examples of tropes? In this short lesson, Professor Tekla Bude answers these questions using examples from folk tales and William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
