My take:
The Preamp Pedal is Benson's pedal version of the preamp section of their Chimera amplifier. I must say they have nailed the "Benson thing" with this pedal – that classic American-voiced overdrive with the unique fizzy Benson-y top end. Very aggressive, but also very classy sounding pedal. It took a little while for me to understand this pedal, but now I really love it, and no other pedal I own does QUITE the same thing that it does. I'd say it's maybe right inbetween something like the Free the Tone String Slinger and the Hudson Broadcast – aggressive and pushed like the Broadcast but smoother midrange and fizzier top like the String Slinger. I especially like it through my Jackson Newcastle 18, since I can't really get that American overdrive out of my amp on its own. Highly recommended! Check it out.
