The House of the Dead - 104,140 (No Continues)

Описание к видео The House of the Dead - 104,140 (No Continues)

A no-continue playthrough of the arcade version of The House of the Dead via the Sega Model 2 Emulator, using the mouse. HOTD1 is my favorite entry in Sega's horror-themed rail shooter series, and was the game that got me into arcades in general.

In this playthrough, I achieve a great score (scoring 100K or higher is considered amazing). However, it's not my personal best; you can watch my PB run here:    • The House of the Dead Arcade - 108,68...

For faster kills and higher score, you must shoot the humanoid creatures, dogs, and monkeys in the head. The weakest of such enemies die in one headshot, while the strongest die in two. For enemies like bats and maggots, they can't be headshotted, and will die in one hit anywhere.

Saving researchers gives you points and extra lives. If you save them all, in the final level you unlock a secret bonus room filled with extra points and lives. Shooting a researcher costs a life and points.

The House of the Dead has tons of branching paths, adding more replay value. Depending on if a researcher dies or not, or If you shoot certain objects, your path changes. In this playthrough, I take the highest-scoring route. At 3:45, I deliberately get knocked down by an enemy, which deducts a life, to take the most optimal path in stage 1.

Coins are worth 300. Golden frogs are worth 1000. If you're at max lives (5) and collect a life, you get a bonus 300 points. I stupidly missed at least one coin and frog in this playthrough -- sorry about that -- so I could've potentially scored 1300 more here.

There's more little scoring quirks and optimizations but those are just the basics. HOTD is fun, in my opinion, and also fairly-designed. Every instance of damage, every missed item, and every missed headshot is your fault. With practice, you can clear the game without dying and score high. I love this game.
