Today, at Quanta laser labs, we’re going talk about the 755 Alexandrite laser for permanent hair removal, or, as the FDA has it, permanent hair reduction. The 755 wavelength is probably the best wavelength for lighter skinned hair removal. As far as the Fitzpatrick scale goes, one through threes, maybe one through fours, the Alexandrite is going to be the best wavelength to be used for those lighter skinned patients.

The reason why is that 750-watt five wavelength is incredibly well absorbed by melanin. And, melanin is the target, or the chromophore, that we’re going after in hair removal. And since it has such a high melanin absorption, if you don’t have a lot of background color in your skin, like a lighter skin type, that’s going to give you the best efficacy.

Now, with 755s there are some other advantages. 755 wavelengths are also, because they are so well absorbed in melanin, they’re also a very good laser to use for treating benign pigmented lesions and we’ll talk about that in our skin treatment series. But, with an 755 Alexandrite laser, you have light skin hair removal and benign pigmented lesion treatments. And also, oftentimes you have a 755 laser matched up in a same box as a 1064 which give you an incredible wide variety of treatments that you can do.

So, a 755, while it is a bigger laser, usually is going to need a 220 electrical outlet, oftentimes, this is the best device for hair removal in a clinic that needs high powered, high efficacy laser treatments.
