This makita hammer is stuck in Hammer mode and will not go into hammer only.
The locking sleeve inside that disengages the rotary function has snapped and locked into place.

A full hammer section teardown is needed to replace the part.
As there was metal shavings contaminating the grease, it now needs to be washed out and replaced. Plus while the hammer js dismantled it is good practice to replace the orings on the piston and striker also.
