Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has openly called out the double standards of his country, asking how Islamabad can justify attacks on Afghanistan in the name of targeting terror groups while objecting when India carries out similar action against Pakistan.

In a video circulating on X, Rehman, who is a member of the Pakistani National Assembly (their Lok Sabha), argued that Pakistan cannot justify its military action against Afghanistan while objecting to India's military strikes against terror headquarters on its soil. He was alluding to Operation Sindoor.

"If you say, and I ask this, that we attacked our enemy in Afghanistan and justify this. Then India also says that it attacked its enemies in Bahawalpur, Muridke, and the headquarters of groups responsible for the attack in Kashmir (Pahalgam) ... then how can you raise objections to this? You raise the same accusations against Afghanistan. How do you justify both the positions," Rehman asked.

Rehman was referring to Pakistan's recent military escalation against Afghanistan, which Islamabad justified due to the rising terror attacks by Tehrik-e-Taliban (Pakistan). Pakistan has long accused the Taliban rulers in Kabul of giving safe haven to TTP, which has been targeting Pakistani forces since calling off a ceasefire with the government in 2022.

However, the action against TTP and Afghanistan came just months after India launched similar strikes against terror groups operating in Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. A proxy of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), The Resistance Front (TRF), had claimed responsibility for the dastardly attack on April 22.

On May 7, India retaliated with Operation Sindoor with the armed forces attacking nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). This sparked an intense four-day military escalation between the two neighbours, with Pakistan repeatedly accusing India of declaring an act of war. New Delhi, on its part, made it clear that it did not target any military installations and only launched attacks against known terror camps.

The JUI-F chief's argument validates New Delhi's stance about Pakistan's hypocricy when it comes to terror groups operating against India even as it cries foul when outfits from the other side of the border launches attacks on its forces.

Meanwhile, fresh border clashes erupted between Pakistan and Afghanistan forces earlier this month, with each sides accusing each other of breaking a fragile ceasefire.
