In an interview with TVP World, Grigol Julukhidze, Associate Professor at the Caucasus University, explained how the Trump-Putin meeting is viewed from the Caucasus region's perspective. A few days ago, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed agreements under the patronage of President Trump, ending a long-standing conflict. The diplomatic success greatly strengthened American influence in the region. On the other hand, the talks held between Trump and Putin on equal footing clearly demonstrate to Georgian politicians that the Kremlin's geopolitical influence is still very strong. According to Julukhidze, it's possible to freeze the war in Ukraine similarly to the one in Georgia, where two Russian-backed regions function as independent, though unrecognized, states.
