Does a TRUE VILLAIN Exist in Link's Awakening? (Zelda Theory)

After playing Link's Awakening in anticipation for the remake, some parts of the story have peaked my interest. While simple, the game's plot is arguably one of the most unique ones in the franchise. It also tops the list as one of the most sad endings within the series.

However when going through this game, the question of whether the nightmares can be considered "villains" came into my mind. So for Zelda's 33rd Anniversary we are going to look into this compelling question.

Does a TRUE VILLAIN exist within this game?
