In this video, Dean Anderson introduces us to the D40P Non-contact safety door switch from Omron Automation.

The D40P series of switches use coded magnet actuators and Hall Effect technology in the switch to provide solid state outputs. This provides an increased life compared to conventional magnetically actuated reed switches.

Each switch provides 2 separate normally closed outputs that operate with all Omron safety controllers as well as most safety monitoring relays designed for dual normally closed inputs.

One normally open auxiliary output is also provided for monitoring or feedback signals. Each switch has an LED indicator to identify the operation of the switch.

The D40P series of safety switches conform to safety categories up to PLe per ISO 13849-1. Up to 20 switches can be connected in series and conform to PLd.

All switches are available with a choice of 5 meter, 10 meter, or an M12 connector on a 250mm pigtail. A variety of M12 cables and connectors are available to allow the quick hook up of multiple switches in a series configuration.

The D40P is available in either plastic or stainless steel construction. The plastic housings provide an IP67 rating while the stainless steel version provides IP69K protection.

The stainless steel version also has a mirror polish finish. A special food version is available with blind mounting holes in the back of the switch so there are no front recesses. This design feature minimizes the possibility of debris collection.

The stainless steel food versions have an operating temperature range of -25 degrees centigrade to +105 degrees centigrade and are suitable for clean in place or sanitize in place applications.

The D40P is available in a variety of physical shapes including long rectangular, short rectangular and barrel mounts.
