Sony Mobile ES XAV-9000ES Review | Pre-amp Voltage & Clipping Test

July is my birthday month and what better birthday present is there than a Sony Mobile ES XAV-9000ES head unit??? I have no doubt this high res audio capable Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto double din head unit will sound amazing. I've gotten used to listening to the Sony XAV-9500ES all day long on display which inspired me to splurge for the XAV-9000ES.

I am certain it will look perfect and sound fantastic in my 2014 Wrangler. Not only will it sound great, but with the Sony Mobile ES HD display, I might actually be able to SEE it when the top is off. BUT before John can install it for me, I need to know what the limitations are so I'll be putting the Sony XAV-AX9000ES through some testing using my trusty oscilloscope! Is this Sony Mobile ES head unit 5 volt on front, rear and sub? Does the pre-amp clip at any point? What is my safe max volume? How powerful is the internal amplifier and at what point does that start to distort?

And what about the wireless CarPlay connectivity? The Sony XAV-9000ES features wireless CarPlay ONLY (wired is not an option - the USB C is for charge only with Apple). Android users have the option of wired or wireless. How reliable and consistent is that wireless connection? That is to be determined verifiably once John installs it in my Jeep Wrangler JK, but until then, I will do some basic testing!
