Notes and Afterthoughts: I am not a "pro-natalist". Of course life includes suffering. I don't dispute that. I am only interested in showing the major flaw in the Asymmetry Argument. Towards the end of this video I discuss the idea that the heat death of the universe will finally bring peace. But I do not think the heat death will be the forever end. I am convinced that the same states that caused this universe will cause yet another, and may have already caused others elsewhere. We can ask: "what caused the big bang?" and then ask, "okay, if that's what caused the big bang, then what caused that?", and we can keep asking, "and what caused that?", until we finally reach the very same state things will be in after the heat death. And if from that state is where the universe came from, then what's stopping it from happening again? The truth is that we just don't know. Science is constantly updating and learning new things. We think things are one way, but then it turns out things are some other way. But I do know that change is inevitable. Change is the only constant. But, if I am wrong about there being other places that consciousness will arise again, then there's still no "nothingness" (What I believe Benatar is actually implying when he says "the absence"). It would still be true that only experience is what's experienced. But the heat death is quite a ways off... Until then, no matter what that point in time may hold: there's no escaping experience. This is not an endorsement to have kids. Of course there are many people that shouldn't have been caused to exist. But the Asymmetry Argument doesn't discuss, doesn't differentiate between individual's particular lives. It's about existence vs non-existence. Conscious existence vs "the absence" (the unending, never interrupted absence, a.k.a. nothingness)...
